The director general of Iran’s North Railway Administration-2 revealed the country’s significant 44 percent increase in the exchange of goods with the Republic of Azerbaijan via rail in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year.
The exchanges of goods through the joint railway between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan at the Astara border crossing increased by 44 percent from March 21 to September 22 compared to the same period last year, Gholam Hossein Valadi stated on Thursday.
Citrus fruits, cement, chemicals, and tiles were the main export products transported to the neighboring country via rail, he continued.
Wood, lumber, corn and lentils were among the main products imported into the country from Azerbaijan in this period, Valadi added.
Referring to the 6-month import-export and transit performance at the Astara border terminal, he said that the exchanges of goods between the two countries via rail registered a 44 percent hike compared to the same period last year.
According to him, more than 322,000 tons of goods were exchanged with the neighboring country at the Astara border crossing from March 21 to September 22, 2023.
The director general put the volume of goods exchanged between the two countries from March 21 to September 22, 2022, at 223,506 tons.
